Loss reduction of 1,700,000 rubles per month for a sand quarry
Case on the implementation of the neural network Cyber Vision Control
Sand quarry operations are difficult to control in terms of tracking theft. There are two reasons for that. As a rule, the quarry itself is located at a remote distance from the company's headquarters. Secondly, it is problematic to come up with a system for controlling business processes. By entering a car that takes out sand into the accounting system, dishonest employees may underestimate the volume of its body.

All these complexities create an excellent breeding ground for theft and carelessness of employees. We realize this problem, so that's why we have come up with several solutions that we have offered to specialized companies. As expected, we received several responses in the shortest possible time. The quarry is located at a distance of 70 km from St. Petersburg
The customer for this case was the owner himself. His quarry was located at a distance of 70 km from St. Petersburg, but the customer's office was within the city, so the customer did not visit the facility very often. Although the quarry was equipped with video surveillance cameras, it was impossible to catch anyone in the act. Of course, from time to time the owner suspected that the sand at his facility was being stolen.

We honestly reported that this was a pilot project for us, but for our customer it was more of an advantage. We'll explain why. The fact is that the first thematic project is the foundation for us, on which we build a scheme for analyzing an enterprise in this field. Therefore, 80-90% of potential questions are asked on the pilot project. As a result, the customer receives the maximum possible adjustment to his business processes. In this case, we also offered a payment upon achieving a successful result to the customer.
The integration team always assesses the situation on the spot.
So, after two telephone conversations at the top level, it was decided to introduce Cyber Vision Control in the quarry. The first meeting was scheduled at the facility. After receiving the plan of the quarry, the integration group went to the site.
Integration group is a group of specialists that analyzes the object in terms of placing the necessary equipment. An accurate diagram of the facility is made, control zones are drawn and, accordingly, the points of equipment placement (CCTV cameras, barriers) are determined. Of course, we adapt to the current situation of the customer, trying to minimize their costs.
The purpose of the experts' visit was, first of all, to determine what exactly is subject to control, and secondly, to develop a scheme for its implementation: drawing up a "live" plan of the object; determination of the list of equipment; points of its installation and a list of preparatory work on the part of the customer
Let us remark here that whenever possible, we always try to use the customer's current equipment (current cameras, current server, etc.).
The quarry was equipped with one checkpoint for transport. We immediately noticed that the cars were moving in a fairly dense stream. Therefore, it was proposed to control transportation, its volume, what the vehicles take out and how much, and of course, whether the checkpoint employees comply with the regulations that must be observed at this facility.
Business processes are divided into complex (for example, serving food in a restaurant) and simple. The work of the checkpoint on the sandy quarry is a simple process. And taking into account the experience of our company, which is more than 10 years of work in the field of security, it immediately became clear what and how should be monitored at this facility.
We prefer to act quickly.
Our integration team agreed with the owner's representative on a plan for placing the equipment and recorded the necessary preparatory work on the spot. Let us explain what may apply to such works. For example, to place a six-meter steel mast (and we have soil and wood), it was necessary to prepare the base, and then carry out the installation work of the video cameras. These works, as a rule, are carried out by the customer's contractor for video surveillance (procurement of equipment, pulling wires, "rough" installation of cameras).
What the CVC CONTROL system was supposed to register:
  • 1
Access to the quarry of vehicles not registered in the registration system.
  • 2
Violation of the rules for vehicles leaving the quarry. According to the regulations, a covered vehicle (c/v) must leave with a rent removed and get covered outside the checkpoint.
  • 3
Availability of the vehicle number in the accounting system for the discrepancy between the real volume of the body and the accounted one.
Norms are needed in order to fix deviations correctly. It means that there is a necessity to study the current business processes and regulations of the enterprise.
When we figured out what we would control, we moved on to business processes and regulations. Usually, regulations such as business processes are written on paper, get approved by the management, and then remain on paper in one of the offices. At the same time, it depends on the management level at the enterprise to what extent employees comply with these regulations. There were situations when such regulations didn't even exist on paper. This is not a good position, since the absence of behavior standards prevents deviations from being detected.

At the sandy quarry there was a similar unpleasant situation, where the owner believed that the regulations not only existed, but were also being more or less complied with. In fact, it turned out differently. Well, things can work out in a rather unexpected way...

But there are no issues that cannot be solved. In order to identify at what level the business processes are organized in the company, it is enough to observe the work of its employees. It happens that we conduct a survey of personnel, but in the case of our quarry, everything turned out to be easier than we thought. The fact is that in five minutes of observation, a dozen cars rushed through the checkpoint, and none of the drivers even thought of slowing down to be registered at the entrance/exit. Needless to say that there was no organization whatsoever. We received an answer to our question.
In some cases, we open the owner's eyes to what is happening in his company even before the installation of the system.
So, our integration group found out all the necessary information, and the customer received a range of questions, one of which was to develop and communicate regulations to the employees.
Cyber Vision Control System Setup
The second meeting also took place at the site. The customer, for his part, did everything as we agreed: the equipment was purchased, the rough installation of video cameras was carried out, and of course, the employees received all the necessary instructions.

At that point, our move was to check the prepared equipment, the correctness of its power supply, the operation of the server, its backup channels, to establish the correct angle of the cameras—in other words, to carry out commissioning.
At the same time, we often pretend to be spies! As a rule, line employees are not informed about the purpose of visits of our integration group. This is what makes it possible to obtain correct data on the state of the current situation at the enterprise after the first days of neurorobots' functioning.
We start training the neural network
The launch of the cameras and the information rushed to our data center. During the training, several robots were involved: the first analyzed the license plates of the cars, others recognized the contents of the body, and there were also the third and the fourth, etc. Usually, the training of robots can take about a week, but in our case, due to the busy flow of cars through the checkpoint, we managed to do it in three days.
Integration with the customer's database or "Oh, you and your IT service!"
After training neurorobots, there is only a short stage remained, that is integration with the customer's system. Since our little neuro-assistants had to compare the information they received from the video cameras with the customer's accounting database,

at this stage two difficulties may arise. First one is that the guys from the IT service are paranoid about external partners, even when there is no reason for this. And secondly, sometimes such specialists only know how to restart Windows, or even cannot do at least that. As a result, one has to go and restart it instead.
The very process of integration with the customer's accounting system is as follows: our neurorobots receive information from cameras and begin to analyze it. To do this, one needs to establish an exchange of information.
The customer uploads the necessary information to the agreed point where we pick it up. Everything is very simple! However, we do not have access to their main system. To put it even simpler, there is a fortress, and they take a box outside the gates of the fortress, while we stay outside the gates.

Ideally, such a joint procedure takes no more than a few hours. But in this case, it took us a week.
Neurorobots started working and brought the consequences.
The system started working by constantly checking with the customer's accounting system, and an online stream of violation notifications flew to the owner.
We will not go into details of how many and what kinds of violations were detected during the first week of the system's operation.

Let us only say that the manager of this sand quarry received serious sanctions from the owner, and almost all line workers were replaced in the first two weeks.
It is impossible not to punish! One cannot stop controlling!

In our experience, violations are instantly reduced when the staff understands that the fact of deception will be detected and punishment will inevitably follow. Therefore, the owners must be ready to act. If the punishments stop, then the number of violations increases exponentially.

That is why we recommend exercising control throughout the entire operation time of the facility, and only neural network robots are capable of this.
First results of implementation
Identified violations
  • The number of suspicious vehicles entered the quarry: 118
  • Number of covered vehicles: 482 (prohibited by regulation)
  • The number of vehicles that were loaded with more weight than reflected in the accounting system: 394
How about that? If you have your own quarry, you can estimate the losses.

Each violation was recorded (the CVC system generates a video clip lasting several seconds) and turned into a convenient report. Moreover, if the owner wants to check each video segment personally, then he will study the monthly work of the enterprise in 3-5 hours of watching the prepared video clips for each violation.
Please note that all detected cases of theft were compensated by the respective responsible persons from whom this amount was recovered.
How quickly the system recoups itself or let's talk about money
Subscription fee: 120,000 rubles/month.

Equipment costs: 650,000 rubles.

Integration (implementation) cost: 200,000 rubles.

The amount of money saved was more than 1,700,000 rubles.
The system recouped itself in less than 1 month.
What else does the system allow?
To understand the true worth of using highly efficient intelligent systems in a particular enterprise, we have to take into account the ratio of the cost of such systems to the effect they bring. And in order to assess the real effect of the introduction of the CVC system, one shall understand that these are not only direct financial losses.

Direct effect - an employee who took out a car of sand is caught: the effect is clear - the cost of such sand.

An indirect effect is less obvious and harder to estimate. It lies in the fact that other employees, realizing that the violator will be caught, do not try to take out the sand or try to do it less often.

There is one more point related to the growth of employee cooperation. We think that you have heard about a situation when one stole and everyone are being suspected. It's even worse when the whole team is hung on for a shortage. Of course, it demotivates honest and loyal employees. To the contrary, when sanctions are precisely applied to the violator, it positively affects conscientious employees, increasing the sense of justice.

After all, by default, every employee thinks that the manager sees everything. And if he does not punish the guilty, then this is his decision. According to our surveys, few of the staff believed that the manager did not see the fact of theft. Unfortunately, these are real opinions: "The manager sees everything!"
